Tutor Spotlight on Julio H.

Thank You For Being Such A Vital Part Of Our Team, Julio H. We Look Forward To Sharing More About You So Others Can Get To Know You Better!

Tell us a bit about your backstory and what led you down your current life path.

I am a computer science student at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

What or who inspired you to pursue your career?

I was inspired by YouTubers like Casey Neistat, who portrayed city life in a positive light. This motivated me to find my own path. Since software engineering is in such high demand in cities, I figured that a computer science degree was the best choice.

What is one thing you are most proud of achieving in your life?

I am proud of finishing an associates degree in engineering at Elgin Community College.

None of us can achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I am most grateful for my mother. She helps me in a numerous ways and I wouldn’t be here without her.

What do you enjoy most about teaching/tutoring?

I enjoy seeing students grow as they become more independent.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Currently on break, I spend a lot of time at the gym or reading.

Describe an amazing trip you took. Where did you go and what did you enjoy most?

Recently, I haven’t gone on any trips. However, in the 3rd grade, I got to experience a trip to Guatemala. I enjoyed working at the families bakery.

Is there a particular book that made a significant impact on you? What is it and why did it resonate with you?

The Bible has had a great impact on me. It helps guide my decision making which has a drastic affect on my development.

The road to success is difficult and requires tremendous dedication. What advice would you give to a young person who aspires to follow in your footsteps and emulate your success? Focus

I often learn more when I make mistakes than when I try and do things perfectly. At the same time, striving to attain perfection in your work consumes too much time, so start rough and eventually after enough failures – you might start to see some real changes.

What are you most passionate about? Can you share a story?

I am most passionate about fitness. After high school, I fell into a rut where I gained a ton of weight – this led to me weighing around 270 pounds. However, after getting back on a regime, I was able to reduce my weight to around 200 pounds.

Please share your favorite life lesson quote. How is it relevant to your life?

“You will face many defeats in life, but never let yourself be defeated.” – Maya Angelou. Life can be discouraging sometimes and feeling defeated in pursuit of some goal might prevent a person from continuing to strive. However, these losses can be viewed a lessons rather than reminders. It’s relevant to my life because I have failed a ton, but I’ve also worked through those failures which has shown me it’s possible to improve even when it feels daunting.

Thanks, Julio! We Are So Lucky To Have You On The Team!
