Thank You For Being Such A Vital Part Of Our Team, Treaser Kitui! We Look Forward To Sharing More About You So Others Can Get To Know You Better!
Tell us a bit about your backstory and what led you down your current life path.
I have always been driven by a desire to uplift others, stemming from my own experiences growing up with limited resources. This background inspired me to work on projects that provide essential support to underprivileged communities, such as distributing sanitary kits to girls and participating in food and water initiatives. My commitment to social impact led me to volunteer for various community projects, further fueling my passion for helping those in need. I believe in the power of education and community engagement, which is why I am excited about the Fundraising Partnership Volunteer role. It offers an opportunity to connect local businesses with life-changing initiatives, ultimately improving the lives of low-income students and fostering a stronger community.
What or who inspired you to pursue your major/career?
My inspiration to pursue a career focused on community upliftment stems from my upbringing. Raised by my grandmother and parents, I experienced the challenges of attending public schools with limited resources, which shaped my understanding of the disparities in education and opportunities. Growing up in a community that lived hand to mouth, I saw firsthand the difference that support and resources can make in people’s lives. Witnessing those who overcame similar circumstances motivated me to ensure that others have access to quality education and essential resources. I am passionate about creating opportunities for those in need, believing that everyone deserves a chance to succeed and thrive.
What is one thing you are most proud of achieving in your life?
I take great pride in working with a community-based organization dedicated to providing children in underserved areas with access to education. Through fundraising, we have successfully supported their schooling and addressed essential needs like food and supplies. Witnessing the positive impact on their lives and futures has been incredibly fulfilling and motivates me to continue this important work.
What keeps you motivated? What maintains your passion for and commitment to the work you
are doing?
I am deeply motivated by the tangible results of our efforts—seeing the people we support thrive brings me immense satisfaction. Knowing that my work is both meaningful and directly impactful fuels my passion. Additionally, witnessing the transformative power of education and essential resources in the lives of underprivileged communities reinforces my commitment. The stories of individuals who overcome challenges and achieve their dreams as a result of our initiatives inspire me to keep pushing forward. The hope and potential I see in every person we help drive my dedication to this work.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
I am deeply grateful to my grandfather, William, who has been my source of inspiration and strength. Born into abject poverty, he worked as a carpenter, often walking over 100 kilometers each week to gather wood from a steep, rocky mountain. Through his relentless efforts, he made and sold furniture at modest prices to support his family, which included 13 children, my father being the third. Despite limited resources, he championed the importance of education, using his meager earnings to ensure his children attended school.
Thanks to his sacrifices, the first three of his children received sponsorship to attend university, and they later helped educate their siblings. It was my grandfather who truly broke the cycle of poverty in our family. He passed away in 1997, but his legacy lives on through my father, who became a teacher. Although my dad’s earnings were modest, he prioritized our education and ventured into farming to support us.
Ultimately, my grandfather’s unwavering belief in hard work and education inspires me every day, reminding me that success is often built on the sacrifices and lessons of those who came before us.
Why did you choose to be a professional volunteer for Educate. Radiate. Elevate.?
I chose to volunteer for Educate. Radiate. Elevate. because it offers me the chance to serve students and contribute to their growth in meaningful ways. It’s an opportunity to pay forward the kindness and support I received in my own life, helping to create positive change in their educational journeys. I also believe that each student when given a head start can be whatever they desire to be and more.
What about the Educate. Radiate. Elevate.’s Purpose, Mission, and Core Values speaks most to you and why?
What resonates most with me from the “Educate. Radiate. Elevate.” initiative is the core value of Educational Equity. My personal experiences in underfunded schools have shown me how access to resources can significantly impact a student’s success. This commitment to providing the necessary support and resources embodies my passion for helping underserved communities.
Additionally, the emphasis on Partnership deeply resonates with me. I recognize that learning extends beyond the classroom, and collaboration with families, schools, and local organizations is essential for fostering comprehensive educational experiences. By fostering these meaningful connections, we can create a robust support system that empowers students to reach their full potential.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I love to immerse myself in nature. Hiking is one of my favorite activities, as it allows me to explore beautiful landscapes and enjoy fresh air. Additionally, I cherish the moments spent with friends, especially when we’re playing games together. These activities bring me joy and help me recharge for whatever comes next.
Tell about an amazing trip you took. Where did you go and what did you enjoy most?
I took an incredible trip to the source of the Nile in Jinja, Uganda. The breathtaking views along the journey were truly remarkable. One of the highlights was savoring delicious food at a local restaurant that showcased the flavors of the region. I also had a memorable boat ride to a nearby island, which added to the adventure. Experiencing the vibrant Ugandan culture was another aspect I cherished during my visit. The combination of stunning scenery, delicious cuisine, and rich cultural experiences made this trip unforgettable.
Is there a particular book that made a significant impact on you? What is it and why did it resonate with you?
One book that made a significant impact on me is Gifted Hands by Dr. Ben Carson. This powerful autobiography delves into themes of faith, resilience, and the importance of showing up in the face of adversity. Carson’s journey from a challenging childhood in a struggling household to becoming a leading neurosurgeon is truly inspiring.
What resonates with me most is his unwavering belief in the potential of individuals to overcome their circumstances through hard work and determination. The way he highlights the role of his mother’s encouragement and the transformative power of education serves as a reminder that with support and perseverance, anything is possible.
Moreover, the book exemplifies how faith can guide us through life’s obstacles and instills a sense of hope. It encourages me to reflect on my own journey and the importance of showing up—not just for myself, but for others in need.
The road to success is difficult and requires tremendous dedication. What advice would you give
to a young person who aspires to follow in your footsteps and emulate your success?
I would advise them to stay persistent and resilient on their journey, as success doesn’t happen overnight. Remember, “Rome was not built in a day,” meaning that each small step forward contributes to their growth. It’s important to focus on making each day a little better than the last. Embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and improve, and never underestimate the power of dedication and hard work. With determination and consistent effort, they can build a strong foundation for their future and achieve even greater things.
